6 Day Sea of Cortez Swim Technique Expedition
Base: Loreto, Baja California Sur
Sunday 26 April to Friday 1 May 2026
Meeting point: Loreto Marina at 8am on Sunday 26 April 2026
Finish Time: 12 noon on Friday 1 May 2026
Day 1
We meet at Loreto Marina for our private charter and journey north to Isla Coronado, keeping watch for dolphin pods that frequent these waters. Today is your technique deep-dive. where we'll introduce you to the Swimmastery approach—a method that transforms how you move through water. We'll film your stroke from multiple angles and teach you simple but powerful "cues" that unlock more efficient swimming.
After a beachside lunch, we cruise to Coronado's southern coast, where white sand beaches meet crystal-clear turquoise water. Here, swimming above vibrant marine life, you'll continue refining your stroke with personalised coaching in some of the Sea of Cortez's most pristine conditions.
Day 2
Today, we take our technique to a new level in the pristine bays around Loreto. With plenty of opportunities for hands-on tactile feedback from coaches, live demonstrations and detailed video analysis, you’ll gain new insights into your stroke mechanics.
We’ll break for lunch together a local restaurant (restaurantes) to enjoy some authentic Mexican cuisine while discussing the morning’s discoveries.
In the afternoon, we’re back in the water, applying what we’ve learned so far. We will continue explore joint mechanics through standing rehearsals and open water practices. Today is about moving through the water with less resistance and more propulsion.
Day 3
We rejoin our private charter boat to set course for Isla Carmen, the Sea of Cortez's largest island and a world unto itself. Our morning begins at Puerto Balandra's sheltered bay, where we'll swim a progressive circuit with technique stations. We focus on integrating the skills we’ve been developing, all while surrounded by dramatic desert mountains rising from the turquoise water.
After a beachside lunch in a secluded cove, we journey to Carmen's northwest coast and the striking volcanic landscape of La Grimas. Swimming along these black lava formations against deep blue water, you'll apply your technique under more dynamic conditions, building confidence as the week's skills come together.
Day 4
Today, we are back in Loreto’s beautiful bays further refining our technique and deepening our understanding of the SwimMastery method to increase propulsion and forward momentum.
The morning session focuses on deliberate practices - embedding ‘cues” into your stroke with more personalised coaching feedback. You’ll work on generating more power from each stroke while maintaining the efficiency we’ve been developing.
The afternoon is yours to explore Loreto at your own pace. Wander through the historic town centre, relax at a beachfront cafe, browse the local shops or simple unwind by the water. This downtime gives your body a chance to rest and your mind time to process everything you’ve been learning. We are getting ready for our adventure swim the next morning.
Day 5
Adventure day. We depart early set course for the outer islands, heading to Isla Danzante—the Sea of Cortez's most dramatic swimming destination. Rising 1,050 feet straight from the water, this desert island embodies raw, vertical beauty that takes your breath away before you even enter the water.
Along the way we visit Carmen's northwest coast at La Grimas, where black volcanic formations create a stunning seascape. This point-to-point coastal swim tests your technique under real open water conditions— deeper blues, natural navigation. Coaches in kayaks provide support as you discover what your refined stroke can handle.
After a beach lunch on a remote cove, we arrive at Danzante for the day's crescendo. Towering cliffs plunge into turquoise water so clear you can see 25 metres or 80 feet down. This is your opportunity to practice all your learnings from the previous days.
Day 6 - Early Morning Swim and Departure
We gather one last time at Loreto Beach as the sun rises over the Sierra de la Giganta. This morning we summarise the learnings for the week and reflect on how different the water feels now compared to Day 1.
After our final swim, we'll review highlights from the week, share breakthrough moments, and discuss how to incorporate your learnings into your swim practices. The rest of the day is yours—explore Loreto's historic mission, enjoy one last fish taco, or simply sit by the water.
